Gardeners get all the dirt and they love to play in it too.

Garden journals are a wonderful gift idea. Not only as a personal gift for someone, they are gifts you
are giving yourself. There are many different kinds of journal books. A garden journal can be a record
of achievements and failures.
Jot down any special preparations before planting, such as adding specific fertilizers, a particular
flower seed packet you liked from last year. Anything that helps you remember what makes your
garden area special to you.
List where you planted things and how they fared. Take a moment and write down your thoughts you
had while admiring your garden.
Your Garden Journal book doesn't have to be fancy or expensive, even a spiral notebook will work.
Remember, you might be taking it out into the yard and it could get dirty! You can show pictures that
you have taken of special areas in your yard or garden and add captions under each photo, much like
a scrapbook and your journal can really be treasured for years. You may find just a nice journal book
with an attractive cover is best for what you want to write down.
You can start your journal by the week or month. If you begin in April, when you feel the winter’s cold
air and ground freeze has past, you can begin by writing how you observed each area to your garden
spots and what you want to do for the new year. Look at your yard area as if you were dividing it into
four squares. Begin to imagine what you want to see in each four areas. Maybe this year you want to
have an area to the West just for a rose garden. Start to think of all the ideas you can have in planting
wonderful varieties of rose bushes in that area. Maybe you have always wanted an arbor with beautiful
climbing pink roses. Take this year to build your arbor and find just the right flowers to be placed
around the arbor. Take another square area of the yard and create something else. Maybe one side of
the yard has a rock area that you can make a rock garden and have a focal point of a hand made rock
fountain. Each area that you make is your own creation of a garden area. Plan your gardens and write
them down and each year add one more flower, bush, birdbath or what ever is popular for the year.
When you begin to jot down things in your book, remember that maybe years from now, when your
grandchildren or a favorite daughter-in-law picks up your garden journal, you have written all the
ups and downs you experienced while making your garden areas. This is a lasting treasure for anyone
reading your seeds of love.
