Water Colors

Helpful hints along the way as you
begin your watercolor art.
The paint palette: Get a large tray so that you can have several
colors going at one time. The thing I found out at the very beginning
is to have lots of water area space, so that your brush has room to
gather up the paint and the water.
Go buy any brand you like of watercolors, but try hard to get the
sable paint brushes. They are nice to work with and are softer than
the regular watercolor brushes. This allows the watercolor paint to
flow on your paper easier. I use a size 6 and a size 10/0 liner brush,
they are what I do most of my work with. It's all about trial and error so
don't be afraid to jump right in.
Step 1:
Lightly draw out what you want to paint first.
Step 2:
Get your palette ready, add all the colors you
think you are going to use for that picture you
want to paint. Have 2 clean rinse water cups
handy. One is for rinsing and the other is for a
second more thorough cleaning.
Step 3:
Have a small water spray bottle handy and spray the
palette so that your paint with become moist, this
may need to be repeated several times during the
painting of your art piece
Step 4:
See, you're on your way to painting with
watercolors. It wasn't as hard as you thought.
Keep adding water to your paint as you go,
that's the real trick to using watercolors, it's all
about the amount of water you use.
Step 1:
Here we go again, draw out the flower arrangement,
then begin with the dark colors first.
Step 2:
If you are painting several of the same flowers, do
them all at the same time, so that your paint stays
the same color..
Step 4:
Just stay consistent with your flower colors and then
add were you think needs more color.
Step 5:
I have changed some areas, can you see where?
Watercolors allow you to change whatever area you
want, just add more water and take off that area
you messed up on or want to correct.
Step 6:
Stand up and look at your painting, this will give you
a better idea of how it looks to others. Add anything
you like to areas that are not the way you want
them to be. I have changed several leaves already.
Step 7:
Are we finished? Maybe, if that's all you want to
add to your painting, then stop. Sometimes too
much is just that, too much.
No one has to be perfect at painting, you just have to enjoy what you are painting. I'm
still learning as I go, but I find I don't have to read all the information about
watercolors, I just have to start in and create. It's so much easier than any other
painting I have ever done. I will continue to watercolor as I am finding it must be my
medium in art.
