When I was young my Mother would always bake the Christmas Cinnamon red apples. The smell of nutmeg and cinnamon filled the house, and the apples were a real treat.
Core an apple; add cinnamon, nutmeg and red hot candies to about a cup of water in a baking dish. Cook covered in the oven or microwave until apple is soft. Remove from oven and set aside. Add a combination of walnuts, dates, cranberries and brown sugar with butter to the center of the apple. The heat from the apple will melt the brown sugar and butter together. Add whipped cream and sprinkle with red sprinkles or nutmeg. You can add a whole cinnamon stick inserted in the apple for presentation.
Not only are these beautiful and festive to look at, they so very good to eat.
