What to do on a cold winter day?

The fog rolled in yesterday and today I got up to 4 inches of fresh powdered snow. It's cold and wet outside so I'm staying busy by dehydrating some fruit. I purchased Mangos, Pineapple, Oranges and Apples and I have a good start to the Pineapple and Mangos drying and then I can enjoy them as a snack.

It's not hard to do this drying process and you don't need some fancy dehydrator. Mine is from Walmart and didn't cost an arm and a leg. I have a large metal one for deer meat drying into jerky. It smells of the meat all the time even though it is washed thoroughly. So, it was time to get a new one just for fruit. I plan on trying it out on my fresh Herbs later this summer, however I still do like the old fashion way of hanging my Herbs to dry. They tell me a food dehydrator increases the Herb flavor so you have to use the Herbs sparingly, which I don’t care for; but again I will try it out.

It takes hours to dry fruit so if you are in a hurry I suggests you go buy a bag of dried fruit at your local grocery store. However, it won’t taste the same as your dried fruit you are carefully making all by yourself.

Happy drying today and enjoy the rest of your day.
